Letter to Stephen L. Johnson

Dear Mr. Johnson:

I’m writing you to let you know, that I think it’s great that you care about the environment so much. I think you can help other people see how much global warming is hurting our environment. Global warming is destroying our planet and some people are sitting around, watching it happen. Global warming is one of the most serious problems we are having. It is killing the plants and animals everywhere, and is even affecting people. I thought that since you are the Administrator of the US Environmental Agency that you would want to hear other people’s point of views and to help.

Global warming is drastically affecting the earth’s climate, seasons and environment. Now, plants are growing later and living longer, and there are more tropical storms. Two- hundred million people may have to be moved because of the rising of the sea levels and severe droughts. The slow extinction of the polar bears is also because of global warming. The polar bears need to rest after swimming a certain amount of miles and this is causing a problem for them. The polar ice caps are melting so the polar bears don’t have as many places to rest, causing many to drown.

Global warming is also affecting the forests. Because of the increased amount of greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere the trees are increasing in growth. The more greenhouse gas the larger the tree growth. The Stern Review’s John Hughes edited an article called “The Science of Climate Change” which states “Our climate has already warmed up 0.7 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and even with the seemingly small rise we can see significant changes across the planet”.

Sadly, humans are the major cause of global warming. Every time we get into a car, and a bus, train, or airplane we are contributing more to the mess we have started. Some people don’t think global warming is actually happening and, unfortunately, some people who do believe it don’t want to take the time or money to try to fix the mess they helped create.

Global Warming has influenced the minds of many people in good ways and bad. With your high standards, and even higher social rank, you could help people see how much global warming is affecting the earth. Hopefully, people will listen to what you have to say and come back to their senses. Remember, if we don’t try to stop global warming, then it will only get worse.

Sincerely,

A Fan
